Services
What is a specialist? A specialist is an individual who has completed a residency in an AVMA credentialed program and has passed their respective colleges’ certification exam(s) giving them Board Certified status. Residencies are 2-3 years of specific training that is in addition to 4 years of veterinary school and a 1 year internship.
Certification exams are extremely rigorous and are typically 2-3 days in length.
VSEC is planning to add Board Certified specialists in internal medicine, cardiology and oncology in the near future with the eventual goal of being a comprehensive multi-specialty referral center with a "Mayo Clinic" feel for small companion animals.
VSEC currently offers specialty services with Board Certified specialists in:
- Critical Care
- Ophthalmology
- Surgery
- 24/7 Emergency (There is currently no AVMA board certification for emergency doctors. The closest related specialty is Critical Care).
