Julia Bates
DVM, Practice Limited to Small Animal Internal Medicine
After graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, Dr. Bates completed a rotating small animal medical and surgical internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following her internship, she completed a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Before joining VSEC, Dr. Bates spent time as a clinical instructor of Primary Care at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and the past year at the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, WI. Dr Bates has strong interests in cardiopulmonary, immune mediated and endocrine diseases, as well as critical care. Her research during her residency involved the use of low-dose DOCP in the management of Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism). She currently working on 2 manuscripts, and once they have been accepted, she will attain Diplomate status within the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Bates is well versed in less invasive procedures like, gastrointestinal and respiratory endoscopy, as well as bone marrow aspirates/biopsies. In her spare time, Dr. Bates enjoys the outdoors, hiking, skiing, playing tennis and softball, as well as spending time with her Boxer, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Boston Terrier and 5 cats.
